It has taken years for me to realize that helping parents and teachers build strong relationships with their young people is what I need to do. People would always comment on how wonderful my kids were, friends would seek parenting advice from me, others would tell me I should consider parent coaching. I spent years shrugging it off, because who “really” needs a coach for parenting? (I roll my eyes now, but I was serious back then.) I didn’t know I was about to enter Thunderdome…
When this whole parenting and working full-time thing was getting real I started to see changes in myself. Changes I didn’t like, but I was too busy building the airplane in mid-air to stop and check that the wings were actually working. Then, when my daughter entered 2nd grade, life kind of went off the rails… Our previously magical relationship had become non-functional and destructive. She was overwhelmed at school, came home crying more days than not, slammed doors… I was beyond exhausted, dreaded those few hours right after school, hated my job… We both ended up exploding one day. You can read the full story, “Why We Said Peace Out to School”, on the blog. All I can say is that I wished I had a parenting coach there to remind me I wasn’t awful, I hadn’t failed my child, I was actually OK. A little positive support would have really relieved my anxiety.
Believe it or not, few parents realize they are actually doing a great job. Sometimes we just need to be reminded. When you look past all that unnecessary stuff in our lives, you’ll see that all our kids really want is a relationship with us. Whole Mindset helps parents and educators work to overcome life’s struggles and the stresses that impact our communication daily. We help you rediscover the magic and beauty of your relationships with your children. I felt utterly alone and exponentially overwhelmed until I found out about growth mindsets and conscious parenting. Now I want to help others discover their parenting/teaching potential through the power of positive communication. Not everyday will be perfect, but using what I’ve learned so far has had such an indescribably powerful impact on me, my daughter, our relationship, and our family as a whole I can’t not shout it from the rooftops.
I’ve spent years teaching, running a tutoring company, and now I’m making all of that experience “official” with a Master’s degree in Education. I’ve learned more through actually being in classrooms, working with students and teachers/parents than any degree would ever be able to accomplish. First-hand lessons are the ones we carry with us forever. Let me help you gain those lessons without going through it all alone. As parents, as moms and dads, as teachers, neighbors, caregivers… We are all in this together.
